Remedies for toothache

Sudden toothaches are very painful. It makes you run to your dentist who can solve your problem. If there is an infection in the tooth or gum, you may also have swelling and tenderness around that particular area.

Clove oil

You need 1 or 2 drops of clove oil for this treatment. Apply this oil directly to the tooth where you have pain and let it stay in place. Do this three to four times a day to get better results.


Garlic has been recognized for thousands of years for its medicinal properties. It acts as a pain reliever by killing the harmful bacteria that cause dental plaque.
Crush a garlic clove to create a paste and apply it to the affected area. Alternatively you can also slowly chew a fresh garlic clove.
You can also add a tiny pinch of salt.

Baking soda

Baking soda relieves swelling because of its anti-inflammatory properties. The antibacterial property of baking soda can treat any tooth infection that is responsible for causing pain.
To use baking soda as a home remedy you will need baking soda, water and cotton ball. Moisten the cotton ball with water and cover it with baking soda. Place this cotton ball on the affected area to get relief from the pain.

Warm salt water

Warm salt water can reduce the swelling and also kill the bacteria. Add a teaspoon of salt to a glass of warm water.
Dissolve the salt in the warm water and rinse your mouth with this.
Repeat it twice or thrice a day.

Hydrogen peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide helps in relieving pain and inflammation. It kills the bacteria, reduces plaque and also heels bleeding gums. Make sure you properly dilute the hydrogen peroxide. To do this, mix 3% hydrogen peroxide with equal parts water and use it as a mouthwash. Do not swallow.
