What does protein do to your body?

The word protein comes from the Greek word proteas which means primary or in the first place. Protein is very important to your body. Proteins are made of amino acids which are joined to one another to form a long chain. There are 20 amino acids in proteins and they are joined in different permutations and combinations to give rise to different proteins in our body.

Protein helps in growth of the body and helps in maintaining essential function of our body. Proteins are found in almost every food we have like eggs etc, because their intake is necessary.

It is a buffer system which helps in maintaining the pH of the fluids inside our body. Proteins are very much helpful in this regard.

There are transport proteins which help in carrying different substances throughout your body via your blood. These are also storage proteins like casein which helps in storing the essential nutrients.

Not having enough protein decreases the level of globulin and albumin in your body.

There are fibrous proteins like keratin which helps in providing strength, structure, and elasticity in our body. The main function of keratin is maintaining the structure of our hair, nails etc.
